PDA MEMBERS HEADING FOR SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING DESIGN
Monday 18 May 2009
Is less bad still good enough?
Sustainability is a highly topical issue that currently dominates widely
disparate areas. It is relevant to politicians and sociologists as well as
to brand owners, material suppliers, designers and, last but not least, to
consumers. In its role as a facilitator for discussing and sharing ideas and
opinions, the PDA lays increasing emphasis on this key issue.

Stratmore, design wine: 'Sagrado'

Advance, design soya milk: 'SoyaSi'

RBA Design, design wine: 'Relux'
A special design project dedicated to this subject was recently carried out
to encourage member agencies to explore sustainability in relation to
packaging. A couple of design agencies representing the designers'
association - coming from Italy, Greece, The Netherlands, Russia and
Switzerland - were given a fictitious briefing on the development of two
different products: a soya milk and a wine/spirit. The assignment was to
develop a structural packaging design (shape and material) and a visual
identity for the product (packaging design).

Brunazzi, design wine

ARD, design soya milk: 'Powersoy'

Vermeulen, design wine: 'Chateau Ecologique'
The aim was set to create a sustainable and eco-friendly solution that at
the same time considers the efficiency of the packaging as a selling tool.
The question was thus to overcome the apparent conflict between a
top-appealing design and the recyclability of the material.

Evelution, design soya milk: 'BO'

Yalos, design wine: 'Ouzo Eros'

KIAN, design soya milk: 'Soya Tétine'
The results of this project were outstanding design developments, which were
premiered during the Ipack-Ima fair in Milan from 24 to 28 March 2009.
